Liquorose, Jenni Frank Inspired Me To TikTok Stardom – Purple Speedy

TikTok Celebrity, Purple Speedy, has revealed how she joined the platform 2019, and Liquorose and Jenni Frank inspired her.

“The first time I joined TikTok, I basically joined the platform for fun. I was watching a lot of people’s videos and all that. But I loved the acting part of TikTok. Basically, at that particular point, the reason why I couldn’t do my TikToks was because I didn’t have a very good phone,” she said.

When she eventually got a phone, it was not a top-of-range device that could allow her to do all the things she wanted as a creator.

“My basic challenge when I signed up was I didn’t have the finances to get a good phone to start shooting. I just had the phone to just watch and do other things. When I got a better phone, not like it was totally good, I started doing my TikToks. Even though my TikTok was a little slow and not really clear, I started doing my videos,” she said.

Encourage by the initials responses to her video, she kept going but what really pushed her was watching the explosion of TikTok Nigeria’s first range of female stars like Liquorose and Jenni Frank whose success urged her to devote full-time to content creation.

“There were people on the app that actually inspired me to want to do what they were doing,” Purple Speedy says. “Liquorose was one of the people that inspired me and the other person was Jenni Frank. She was doing more of the acting. When I left, I still decided to come back because I got a better phone.”

The consistency and the feeling that TikTok was supporting even smaller content creators was what encouraged Purple Speedy to keep going. “TikTok was able to bring up people that had nothing to the spotlight,” she says. “That was another thing I noticed about TikTok. Even though you are not good enough, so long as you do your own thing in your own space, people will actually appreciate it.”

These days, Purple Speedy is a star in her own right with over 6.5 million followers on her account and she is enjoying being an inspiration to a whole new generation of TikTok creators. “It feels really good,” she says. “It feels really amazing because, at that particular point, there was nothing in this life that’d tell me that I’d be able to meet up with these particular people or they’d even identify me.”

She has also been blessed with the opportunity to collaborate with some of her icons. “Recently, Liquorose was able to identify me and she called to say she loves what I’m doing and that I should keep it up and it’s going to take me places,” Purple Speedy says. “I feel like it’s basically TikTok that brought the platform for them to be able to identify me. It feels really good. I feel really honoured, honestly.”
