A former National Human Rights Commission chairman, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has raised concerns about the state of Nigeria, warning that the country was gradually becoming a genocide theatre.

In his paper titled, “Resetting Nigeria,” presented during the 10th-anniversary annual lecture organised by the Just Friends Club of Nigeria (JFCN) recently in Abuja, he emphasised the need to reset core areas of the economy to correct past mistakes.

Odinkalu, highlighted threat posed by ethnic and tribal bigotry to Nigeria’s unity and existence.
He stressed the need for an urgent shift from focusing on indigeneship to citizenship to address insecurity.

The constitutional lawyer also pointed out that lack of national citizenship and forging of nationhood contribute to the country’s crisis.
He criticised the country’s politicians for improperly allocating votes and resources and called for genuine counting in these areas.

The President of JFCN, Fred Ohwahwa, on his part also advocated for an urgent reset in Nigeria’s economy, infrastructure, and other sectors.
The organisation emphasised the importance of fostering unity, companionship, and philanthropy among its members and society.
