Private primary and secondary school operators in Gombe have expressed uncertainty about the possibility of increasing school fees as the 2022/2023 academic session ends.

Chairman of the Gombe chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Tanko Adamu, stated this during the speech and prize-giving day and graduation ceremony of Alheri Model Schools.

He said school proprietors are aware of the biting economy facing Nigerians and called on the government to introduce policies that will cushion the effect immediately.

Adamu expressed worry that most parents now expend their hard-earned resources on getting food and expensive transportation, thus preventing them from fulfilling basic responsibilities such as educating their children.

He expressed uncertainty about possibly increasing school fees at the beginning of the next academic session, considering how most parents are not finding things easy.

Corroborating Adamu’s view, Grace Samuel, proprietor of Alheri Model Schools, said educating children remains a legacy to leave for children.

She explained that she is not considering increasing the school fees but advised parents that since payment is made flexible, they should do their best to complete the fees in two or three instalments before the end of the term, assuring that the school is preparing very well for the next session.
