20 LG to Participate as Ohaneze, St Eve Football Tourney Begins

Several young persons within the age bracket of 15-17 years would be engaged in a football tournament. The teams picked are across the 20 local government areas of Lagos State.
The football tournament is billed to commence today after the official launch of the August 20th Ohaneze Ndigbo/St Eve maiden edition of the football tournament.
Disclosing this during a press briefing, held in Surulere-Lagos State, the President of the Lagos State chapter, Chief Sunday Ossai called for viable football teams to take advantage of the initiative and embrace it.
Ossai advised the youths for their massive involvement in sporting activities, and supporters in the competition would add glamour to the tournament.
“Let me reiterate the fact that Hon. Paul Onuora is sponsoring this competition to promote the development of football at the grassroots and to help discover young talents in Lagos State. We also believe that through sporting activities, our youths can be positively engaged.”
“Our mission is to rally our community to raise awareness and to enlighten our people about the significance of their contributions. We seek to bridge the gap between the people and the government”, he said.
He noted further that the football league encompassing 20 local governments is not just a sports event but a manifestation of the group’s commitment to promoting community engagement and harmony.
The sponsor of the event, Hon. Paul Onuora said the inaugural soccer championship aimed to build on the power of sports as a tool for peace among Nigeria.
Managing Director of St Eve, Mrs Evelyn Okereke said the competition aimed to enlighten and foster unity as well as mentor the children, encourage their youthful dreams as well as instil in them the mindset that anything is possible through football.
