Deploy Security Operatives to End Killings in Katsina, Lawmaker Tells Tinubu

The lawmaker representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in Katsina State, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, has urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently deploy adequate security personnel in Katsina State to curb the prevailing security challenges in the state.
The lawmaker, while reacting to a recent protest by his constituents over persistent killings and abduction of farmers in the area, said the deployment of the security operatives to the state would end killings and kidnapping by the hoodlums.
He said the president and the nation’s security chiefs should employ all legitimate and innovative means to curb the security challenges bedevilling citizens, especially farmers, in the state.
Ahmed explained that the current strategy for combating the security challenge is not enough, adding that the peace-loving residents of the state are homeless and economically worthless.
He expressed concerns that the residents of the state, particularly those in Musawa and Matazu Local Governments can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed at night nor able to go to their farms and other lawful businesses during the day-time as a result of the nefarious activities of the bandits.
The lawmaker said insecurity has become a major challenge for farmers in the Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency, adding that he recently donated four trucks of fertilisers to the farmers but “they hardly access their farmlands because of insecurity”.
Ahmed said: “I condemned the resurgence of killings and destruction of valuable property in Katsina State. The people of the state, especially my constituents from villages in Musawa and Matazu Local Governments, can no longer carry out their lawful businesses because of persistent bandits’ attacks.
“I therefore call on our amiable President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, deploy massive security personnel in Katsina in order to end the wanton destruction of lives and property in the state.”
He further said President Tinubu should consider long-term solutions to the security challenges and transform the Nigerian security sector from its current largely predatory nature to one that is civilian-centric and focused on building trust relationships with civilians.
He said the president should also consider long-term solutions to the security predicaments and devote equal attention to governance and socio-economic issues that provide fertile ground for recruitment into violent extremism and criminal gangs.
Ahmed, however, said he was working with the senator representing Funtua zone, Hon. Muntari Dandutse, and the Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, to deploy 600 riot police officers to the senatorial zone to tame banditry.
The lawmaker said he spearheaded the distribution of 50 bags of rice, 50 bags of maize and 50 mattresses through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to victims of banditry in the constituency to cushion their hardship.
The Talban-Musawa promised to continue to do everything humanly possible to find a lasting solution to the banditry problem bedevilling the constituency so as to maximise the agricultural potential of the area.
