Foundation Sets Up Inspiring Deaf and Dumb Hairdresser in Osun

The Adewumi Adeyemi Foundation (AAF) has established a promising path for 21-year-old Aina Sunday Emitomo, a young lady with hearing and speech impairment, to pursue her dreams as a professional hairdresser.

The founder of AAF, Adewumi Adeyemi (IREKANDU), shared the inspiring encounter that led to this uplifting initiative.

Adeyemi said during his campaign for the 2023 House of Assembly elections, Adewumi Adeyemi, who is a member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Obokun State Constituency, met Emitomo.

He explained that despite her unique challenges, she exhibited determination and communicated her aspirations to be independent in her chosen field of hairdressing.

Adeyemi, who was moved by her tenacity, took action to support her dreams.

Emitomo, who had acquired hairdressing skills, sought to establish herself within the trade but lacked the means to do so.

Encouraged by Emitomo’s resolve and her desire to avoid dependency, Adewumi Adeyemi extended his assistance beyond her initial request for a hairdryer.

Through the Adewumi Adeyemi Foundation, he collaborated with the Hairdressers Association to provide Emitomo with essential equipment for her trade, including a dryer, tonging machine, washing base, rollers, hand dryer, and straightener.

The Hairdressers Association welcomed Emitomo as a member, allowing her to attain her “freedom” within the profession.

The AAF generously covered the associated fees, leading to an emotional outpouring of joy from Emitomo, who, despite her inability to hear or speak, expressed her happiness through nonverbal cues.

Adeyemi emphasized the importance of empowering individuals to pursue their passions, highlighting Emitomo’s inspiring story as a testament to the possibilities achievable through determination and support.

He commended Emitomo’s decision to work diligently and contribute positively to society, underscoring the responsibility shared by all to build a better community.
