The Principal, Queen’s College, Lagos, Mrs. Oyindamola Obabori, has advised the graduating class of 2023 to always sharpen their 21st century skills for succes in the global world.
Speaking recently at the graduation ceremony, Obabori told the 567 graduands, tagged ‘Global Ambassadors’, that the world of work is rapidly changing in this age of artificial intelligence, and urged them to strive to overcome the challenges they might encounter and to work hard to surpass the achievements of old girls of the college that are doing exploits across the world, in diverse fields.
To instill the spirit of excellence in the students, she said she introduced a set of pledge, which elicited students’ promise to be of good behavior and obey the rules and regulations of the college.
To encourage self-reliance upon graduation, thereby reducing the level of youth unemployment, the principal said the college runs a ‘Potential Club’, which ensures that each student learns one or more skills.
Obabori noted that the students are graduating at a unique and challenging time in the country’s history, and commended them for their strength, resilience and adaptability.
“Despite the uncertainties and obstacles you have faced while here, you have emerged as shinning examples of determination and perseverance. Throughout your years in Queen’s College, you have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence. The achievements are a testament to your hard work, dedication and passion,” she said.
She advised them to embrace the opportunities that come their way with open minds and open hearts, adding that success is not only measured by grades or accolades, but by the impact made in the lives of others.
While expressing confidence in their ability to succeed, the principal reminded the graduands that they can do, achieve anything they set their minds to. “Believe in yourselves, embrace your passions and never lose sight of the values and principles that were instilled in you while you were here.”
She also commended the parents for all their sacrifices to see the graduands through the college, as well as the teachers and other members of staff for the role they played in the students’ lives.
In her remarks, the special guest, Mrs. Olawumi Fajemirokun, the Executive Director of Oladele Fajemirokun Foundation, urged the graduands to embrace new challenges, remain curious and never stop learning, so as to shape a bright and promising future for themselves.
While commending the teachers, other staff and parents who played a pivotal role in their journey, she advised the graduands to carry the words of wisdom and believe in their capabilities with them.
Chairman of the School Based Management Committee, Mrs. Modupe Okebukola, charged the graduands to shine the light wherever they go, and to make a difference in their chosen path.
