The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has appointed Consumertrics Nigeria to its Industry Consumer Advisory Forum (ICAF).
The NCC in a letter jointly signed by Alkasim Umar, its director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, and Clem Omife, head, of Consumer Protection and Advocacy, and made available to THISDAY in Osogbo, attributed the appointment to its belief that “Consumertrics would be a valuable partner in raising awareness on telecoms consumer issues and protection in Nigeria.”
ICAF, according to NCC, “acts in an advisory capacity and makes recommendations regarding the interests and concerns of consumers of ICT products and services, including differently-abled persons and the elderly.”
However, in his remarks, Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Consumertrics Nigeria, Muyiwa Ayojimi, said: “We appreciate the NCC for recognising our efforts and contributions to what we call consumer governance in Nigeria.”
“This definitely is an acknowledgment that Consumertrics is doing something positive and has experiential value to share by being a voice to the voiceless consumers and advancing their rights and interests, not only consumers of ICT services but generally across the Nigerian consumer space.
“Consumertrics Nigeria is a private platform for consumer advisory services with a mission to be the most potent voice and go-to hub on consumer-related issues in developing economies. The work focus of the company majors on advocacy, trendsetting, training and consumer governance.”
Consumertrics has led several consumer-focused campaigns in Nigeria with both private and public agencies with the latest being a campaign/advisory against unregistered loan apps in Nigeria.
The last Consumertrics advisory series was brought together by the NCC, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), banks, lawyers, and consumers to discuss the abuse of consumer rights by loan companies while advocating responsible borrowing and lending within the Nigerian credit market.
