Police Rescue Eight Kidnap Victims, Kill Two Suspects in Rivers
Rivers State Police Command operatives said they have rescued eight kidnap victims abducted from different parts of the state.
The command also killed two suspected kidnappers who engaged operatives of the command in gun duel, in effort to rescue victims.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Emeka Nwonyi, who disclosed this to journalists yesterday at the police headquarters, on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, said the achievements were made within one week.
Nwonyi disclosed that “Police Operatives of the Commsand, on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at about 8:30pm rescued one victim (name withheld) of Rumuokwachi Ogbogoro Port Harcourt, who was kidnapped by four armed men inside a Toyota Corolla with reg. No Rivers RGM 411 EG at the same address.
He said: “Upon receiving the information, a patrol team was dispatched to the scene where the kidnappers were given a hot chase with the assistance of OSPAC vigilante the victim was rescued unhurt”.
CP Nwonyi also hinted that “One suspect was arrested, two of the kidnappers was neutralized during gun duel.”
He said one Toyota Corolla and a locally made pistol were recovered from the suspects, assured that efforts is in top gear to arrest other fleeing suspects and recover their operational weapons.
In a similar development, the police command also rescued five victims abducted along Emohua section of the East-West Road.
Nwonyi stated that “On Saturday, August 19, 2023, at about 0215hrs, a police operative attached to Rumuji Division received information from a driver to a Transport Company Limited, Lagos, that a Sienna bus with reg. no. JJJ 179 JA, that at about 0130hrs of August 19, 2023, while en-route from Lagos to Port Harcourt with five passengers.
“On getting to Rumuodogo Junction in Emohua Local Government Area, some hoodlums blocked his vehicle and abducted the five passengers.
“Meanwhile the DPO Rumuji Division mobilised patrol teams to the scene, while carrying out a search in the nearby forest rescued five of the kidnapped victims and they have reunite with their family members.”
Nwonyi said the command on wednesday, August 16, 2023, mobilised to a kidnap scene in Buguma, Asari-Toru, and the hoodlums on sighting the Police took to their heels, while the two victims were two rescued.
“The Rivers State Police Operative, on Wednesday August 16, 2023 at about 0520hrs, received information that two men were seen around river in Buguma. Operatives immediately went to the area, on sighting the Police, hoodlums took to their heels. While the kidnapped victims were rescued,” he said.
