Women Technology Empowerment Centre Graduates 24 Students

The Women Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC), last week, graduated students who passed through its recent training programme for girls.

During the graduation ceremony, W.TEC gave prizes to best performed students and used the occasion to unveil Miss W.TEC.

Tagged: “She Creates Camp,” the training is in its 16 edition, and it is focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM Camp).

The She Creates Camp is a residential science and technology education and mentoring programme designed to teach girls in secondary schools (ages from ages 13 – 17, to learn to create useful solutions and technologies for everyday living through the application of engineering and scientific concepts, programming, mobile application development, and digital content development.

During their excursion, the camp participants visited Cummins West Africa Ltd Training Centre and Factory, as well as the Microsoft ADC in Lagos where they had a first-hand experience on the work experience at a leading multinational ICT corporation and all what the Africa Development Centre of West Africa is set out to do in developing the capacity in the West African tech space.

On successful completion of the camp, the girls were invited and inducted to join W.TEC’s Alumni Network, where they will be kept up to date with future W.TEC and other workshops to build-up their technical skills and network with other camp alumnae from 2008 to present.

Prizes were given out to distinguished camp participants during the camp’s graduation ceremony. Prizes were given to participants for both group efforts and individual projects, in categories representing, each technical session such as Automated hand washing devices, smart-light devices, mobile apps design and up-cycled art crafts.
