The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, has emphasised the need for social media influencers to channel their energy towards the promotion of unity and progress of Nigeria.

He described the new media as a crucial tool for the promotion of national unity and development.

Barau stated this yesterday in Abuja while hosting members of the Northern Nigeria APC Media Network in his National Assembly office.

Barau, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, appealed to members of the APC Media Network to continue to promote the activities and policies of the government at all levels.

He said, “What you are doing is commendable. Continue to promote the good things this government is doing to enhance the standard of living of the masses.

“There are government-owned media outfits, but we need people like you to support us in promoting our activities.

“Kindly expand the membership of your association to other parts of the country.

“We want a situation where if you go to Enugu from Kano you will feel at home. If you go to Zamfara from Enugu, you will feel at home. This is our country. Let us all be promoters of unity and national cohesion,” he said.

The Chairman of the association, Bashir Yusuf Shuwaki, announced the appointment of the Deputy Senate President as the grand patron of the association.

Meanwhile, thousands of constituents from Yobe North Senatorial District, yesterday, besieged the Wachakal Airstrip to welcome former Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

Lawan, according to his media aide, Ezrel Tabiowo,  arrived at Wachakal in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State from Abuja at exactly 12:40p.m.

The former Senate President had during his tenure between 2019-2023 facilitated the reconstruction of the airstrip.

The airstrip was previously considered as the hub for local and foreign missions within the North-east region before it became moribund.

The approval for the revival of the Wachakal Airstrip was given by the former President Muhammadu Buhari administration in August 2021.

Lawan’s mission to Yobe North Senatorial District was to flag-off the distribution of palliatives to his constituents by his foundation – The Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan Empowerment Foundation, today.

Lawan’s foundation had concluded arrangements to distribute 9,000 bags of grains to constituents in 60 wards across the five local government areas in Yobe North.

The intervention is in support of efforts by the Yobe State Government and the federal government to ease the hardship faced by the people.
