In furtherance of its commitment to enhancing access to quality education, a non-profit organisation, Teach for Nigeria (TFN) has reached an agreement with Materials Science Company, Dow to bridge STEM education gap in Nigeria’s underserved communities.

By this agreement, both organisations will support the recruitment, professional development, and placement of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers in high-need schools in Nigeria.

The partners have also committed to cultivating innovative mindset that will equip STEM educators with cutting-edge pedagogical tools and skills to train a ready, skilled, diverse, and robust workforce for STEM-related fields.

Speaking, Managing Director of Dow West Africa, Adebisi Adeoti explained that the partnership will directly impact nine STEM teachers in nine schools across Lagos and Ogun states.

She added, “We aim to foster the development of students into future leaders, empower them with skills and knowledge necessary to make meaningful contributions in an ever-evolving world. To do this, we need to continue to support the education system. We have made a significant impact in Nigeria since 2022, having already impacted nearly 3,600 students and 135 teachers. Through this co-operation, we aim to continue expanding its positive influence.”

On her part, Chief Executive Officer of TFN, Folawe Omikunle expressed optimism about the outcome of the partnership.

She said, “We are excited to continue our collaboration with Dow in our collective effort to expand excellent education for all children in Nigeria. This partnership is critical in fostering the development of STEM skills in the students we serve, thereby equipping them to face future challenges while improving their life opportunities.”

The collaboration between the duo underscores their shared commitment to transform the educational landscape and empower Nigerian students to thrive in the fields of STEM.

With this partnership, TFN will deepen its impact in expanding quality education to all children. The partnership is part of a global alliance that also impacts Argentina, Spain and Japan.
