Master Munachimso and Somtoochukuwi, a newborn set of twin, were at the weekend added to the growing number of beneficiaries under the Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha Foundation as they were awarded life education scholarships.
The Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, made the announcement during her monthly prayer meeting in her country home, Isouchi, Abia State, after receiving news of their birth.
The gesture was part of her effort to fulfill her promise to continue to prioritise education and create job opportunities for the growing number of youths in the country.
The scholarship, which will run from primary school to the university level, would be funded by Hon Onyejeocha’s Foundation.
Munachimso and Somtoochukuwi will now join hundreds of other beneficiaries under the foundation, some of whom have graduated and have been gainfully employed.
Onyejeocha, who is former Deputy Chief Whip in the House Representatives, recalled how she met the parents of the twins, Mr and Mrs Sunday Obiekwe, who were facing some challenges during the 2023 election campaigns and how she was touched by their condition, and thereafter gave them a brand new motorcycle to assist them in anyway.
The minister explained to the parents that there was no other way to assist them than to take the responsibility to look after the children till they become adults, who could take their own responsibilities of looking after their parents.
She said: “I am glad to receive the news of your wife’s delivering of a beautiful set of twins. I am going to offer these kids a scholarship up to university level. This is one of my ways of assisting the family further.”
In appreciation, Mr Sunday Obiekwe, who was surprised by the gesture, expressed gratitude to the minister, saying his family remains indebted to her for her magnanimity and further prayed to God to continue to bless and guide her.
