Army Inaugurates 12 Residential Blocks for Soldiers in Sokoto

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Sokoto Maj Godwin Mutkut has  inaugurated 12 residential blocks for soldiers in Giginya Barracks, Sokoto.

According to GOC, who is also commander joint task force operation Hadarin Daji, North-west, said the remodeling and renovated blocks will alleviate the accommodation challenges face by personnel in the barracks.

He emphasised that their welfare is paramount in the agenda of Nigerian Army,  stressing that troops must reciprocate the gesture to show utmost commitment in carrying out their assigned tasks, to decisively put an end to banditry in the north west of the country.

The GOC further stated that the renovation of the structures was carried out under the Army Headquarters Special Projects which gives room for mitigating troops’ accommodation challenges in Nigerian Army Barracks across the country.

According to the GOC, the need to pay adequate attention to troops’ accommodation needs cannot be overemphasized, saying  that  when troops and their families are well accommodated it will not only serve as morale booster but will increase the quest to achieving the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy which is “ To Transform the Nigerian Army into a well – trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force towards Achieving Our Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment”, when they realised that the home fronts have been taken care of especially where it affects accommodation.

He used the opportunity to appreciate the Chief of Army Staff (COAS)  Lt  Gen  Taoreed Lagbaja for his overwhelming support towards the completion of all intervention projects in Nigerian Army Barracks across the country.

Earlier briefing the GOC on the projects the Engineer Corps of 48 Brigade , Col Abubakar Danladi said the projects include: 12 Blocks of 12 families of corporal below quarters that were renovated and fully furnished for the comfort of soldiers and their families.

He added that the projects were given to civilian contractors for the remodeling and renovation of the blocks.

He stated that each occupant is  entitled  to one bedroom self contained.
