Kano Cuts Registration Fees by 50% at State-owned Tertiary Institutions

Kano State Government has announced the reduction of registration fees for all indigenes studying across all state-owned tertiary institutions by 50 percent, as part of its efforts to ease the burden on parents following the removal of fuel subsidy.
The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, who disclosed this to journalists during a press conference in Kano, said the gesture was aimed at alleviating the compounding financial hardships on parents.
According to him, the decision would reduce the effect of the current economic hardship on passionate students and their parents, who may be suffering from the consequences of fuel subsidy removal and economic hardship.
He said: “The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, issued this heroic approval for the slash of 50 percent of the registration fees for all Kano State indigenes studying at the state institutions to cushion the worsening economic condition the people have been grappling with in recent times all over the country.
“The decision will further reduce the effect of this current economic adversity on passionate students and their ardent parents, who might be suffering from the consequences of fuel subsidy removal and economic hardship, which is making life very difficult for the masses, as a result of unimaginable inflation on essential commodities.”
The commissioner further stated that all Kano State indigenes studying regular courses in the following institutions are to enjoy the total relief of a 50 percent reduction in the registration fee in the 2023/2024 academic session.
According to him, the institutions are “Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano; Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Kumbotso; Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies.
“Others are Kano State Polytechnic; Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta; Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Advanced and Remedial Studies, Tudun Wada, and Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies.”
Mata stated that Governor Yusuf implored beneficiaries of the government’s kind gesture to reciprocate by being more committed to their studies for the development of the state and humanity at large.
