Tornadoes Get N58m Takeoff Grant for New NPFL Season

Ahead of the kick-off of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season, the Niger State government has released a takeoff grant of N58million to the management of Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna.

In addition, the government has also released the August salaries and allowances for the players and the technical crew.

The Chairman of the Tornadoes Management Committee, Mr Ibrahim Dada, who disclosed this to sports writers yesterday in Minna said the state government has also pledged it’s moral and financial supports for the players and officials to ensure they excel in the new season which will kick off on September 9.

Dada who appreciated the gesture of the government assured stakeholders that the players will put in their best and come out tops at the end of the season.

He disclosed that Tornadoes  may play their home matches at the Kontagora Township Stadium,  adding that the inspection team from the NFF will be in Kontagora this weekend to certify or otherwise the use of the facility.

According to him the Kontagora stadium is 95% ready for the league and “we are optimistic that it will scale the hurdle of the inspection team.”

As Plan B in case the stadium is not approved,  “we will play our home matches in Kaduna”.

The TMC chairman confirmed that not less than 35 players are already in camp with Tasiu Lawal leading the pack.
