In Uganda, Ooni Canvasses Economic Prosperity

Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi is currently undertaking a seven-day visit to Uganda at the invitation of President Yoweri Museveni and Mrs. Janet Museveni. This visit serves a dual purpose – celebrating their wedding anniversary and engaging in discussions regarding the enhancement of bilateral relations and the promotion of economic stability in Africa. It aligns seamlessly with his overarching mission of fostering cultural exchange and advocating for peace and stability across the continent.

During the visit, the Ooni in the company of his wife Temitope and other dignitaries, emphasized the need for stronger trade and business ties between Nigeria and Uganda, as well as the importance of traditional rulers in bridging the gap between the populace and government. He also highlighted the significance of investing in infrastructure, job creation, education, healthcare, and social amenities to enhance democracy and the well-being of the people.

The Ooni further discussed his Pan-African business initiatives and expressed his readiness to invest in Uganda to strengthen social, cultural, and economic ties among Africans. He emphasized the importance of Africans coming together to promote peace and economic development.

“As leaders, we must promote more trade activities among ourselves and also give room for more investment to drive the change so Africa can be self-sufficient in all ways.”

Both leaders acknowledged the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in unlocking economic growth and pledged to work together to realize Africa’s full potential. They affirmed their commitment to unity and prosperity for the African continent.

Expressing his admiration for Ooni Ogunwusi’s efforts in promoting culture, trade, and youth empowerment across Africa President Museveni welcomed the idea of enhanced cooperation between Uganda and Nigeria to foster a robust bilateral relationship.

“We Ugandans are open to more partnerships. We are open to synergizing with you and the Nigerian people. We are brothers and we are bound by one ideology as Africans so we must always remain one regardless of anything that happens. My door is always open for you and your team. We will work with you and ensure a robust bilateral relationship between Uganda and Nigeria,” he said.
