Ganduje: A Politician Seen in New Light
Life is a spinning wheel of uncertainties. To the individual that contravenes every law in the book, anything can happen, good or bad. This is the parable that many Nigerians have begun throwing at the face of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje. After all, despite the opposition against him, he was able to withstand and reach a new height in his political adventures.
The ruling party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is still ruffling the feathers of common sense with the continuing national chairmanship of Ganduje. Even with many gathered to throw aspersions at this appointment, one must admit that the party’s reputation for being unconventional and fixed in its ways explains its dominance in the country.
Ganduje does not have the cleanest record among the rank of Nigeria’s ex-governors. Others have done much less than he is suspected of doing and found themselves staring at the cold walls of prison cells. But fortune has accompanied Ganduje.
Upon his departure from office as Kano state governor, despite the hot stones thrown against him, Ganduje took up shop with his friend, President Bola Tinubu. Critics argue that it is on the strength of this friendship that Ganduje overthrew the allegations against him, even the scandal in which he was supposedly bribed in the Dollar currency.
At present, Ganduje is enjoying his position as APC National Chairman. As a result, he is in the thick of things in the country. He is already making contributions in the form of renewing the membership cards of several prominent runaways from APC. He is also not relenting as he throws the occasional dust into the eyes of his revilers.
For Ganduje, the APC National Chairmanship position is a sweet cake, a Mecca of sorts, a place of renewal and repositioning. Perhaps, the coming years might even see him regain his political relevance and the faux political sincerity that bound so many of his old confidantes to his wagon.
