Makinde Approves RCCG Pastor as New Soun of Ogbomoso

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomoso Kingdom

The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, said in a statement on Saturday that the announcement followed the long-drawn processes specified under the law.

“His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears,” the statement said.

The Commissioner added that the exalted position has placed the monarch-elect in the position to facilitate harmony, understanding and tolerance amongst his people. 

He also urged all sons and daughters of the ancient city of Ogbomoso to work with the monarch to consolidate the successes of his forefathers.

Olaoye, a Lead Pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Jesus House, Washington DC,stepped down from his pastoral position and shown interest in becoming the next Soun of Ogbomosho, March 2022.

He made the decision after the 20th Soun of Ogbomoso, Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, was buried in December 2021.

Ogbomoso kingmakers on Thursday had a meeting at Aafin Ogbomoso with the aspirants in search of the next Soun.

Olaoye has been in the pastoral ministry since 1992. He pastored three RCCG Churches in Nigeria and one in Bonn, Germany before moving to the United States of America.

The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III, joined his ancestor on December 12, 2021 at 95 years old.

He was born on May 27, 1926, in Ogbomoso to Oba Bello Afolabi Oyewumi Ajagungbade II and Olori Seliat Olatundun Oyewumi. Oba Oyewumi ascended the throne on October 24, 1973.
