Nollywood Producer Commends President on Hannatu Musawa’s Ministerial Appointment
Nollywood actor and film producer Ubong Nse Thompson has commended the President, Bola Tinubu, for appointing Hannatu Musawa as the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.
He also congratulated President Tinubu on his victory at the Presidential Election Tribunal.
The filmmaker, also known as Bestman Thompson, is confident that Musawa would take the industry to the next level.
He said: “I would want to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for thinking deeply about including young people in his cabinet.
“For him to have brought in a young person to head that ministry, it’s quite fantastic and commendable.”
According to the actor, he encountered Musawa about a year or two ago, describing her as sound, competent, and goal-oriented.
“I believe the creative industry will benefit more from her,” he expressed.
According to Bestman Thompson, there will be a cluster of ideas; it will be open for everyone to share their thoughts.
He emphasised: “Nigeria is a beautiful place. We should tell our stories and make people see that Nigeria is a great and beautiful nation.”
While noting that he has seen the minister’s eight-point agenda, he described it as “Full of creative reasoning.
“The world is a global village, and technology has taken over. The top five unicorns in Africa are Nigerians.
“If you can see the level of work that we put in, bring in those resources into the entertainment sector, the creative sector is going to enlarge because entertainment itself is lots of money.”
He, however, listed top entertainers like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido making waves on various platforms, selling out the O2 Arena just like Asake and other 20,000-capacity stadia.
Bestman, a graduate of the Lagos State University (LASU), also acknowledged how Nigerian movies are making waves abroad, even in non-English speaking countries like France.
“I returned from France three months ago from Nollywood Film Week. Nollywood films were showing, and they loved it.
“Although they didn’t grasp what we were saying, they loved the African story. Yes, it was translated,” he expressed.
Bestman hopes to see more white people watching Nigerian films, the country regains its good name in international communities and generates more income for the nation.
“Entertainment is a huge investment. I believe that once President Tinubu settles down, he speak to stakeholders in the entertainment sector to harness these talents,” says the film producer and philanthropist.
