Oborevwori Commends NYSC Members’ Contributions in Health, Education

Governor Oborrevwori of Delta State has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members for their immense and consistent contributions to the state over the years.

Oborevwori noted that the impact of the contributions of the NYSC-members serving in Delta has remained resounding especially in the area of education, healthcare delivery and infrastructure development.

The governor gave the commendation yesterday at the closing of the Batch ’B’’Stream II three-week Orientation Course of the Corps held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Campin Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon Johnson Erijo, the governor charged the participants to be optimistic about Nigeria and brace up for the positive living in the different communities they will carry out their primary assignment during their service year in line with “the principles and virtues of perseverance, dedication to duty, loyalty, discipline and patriotism.”

While urging them to avoid truancy and needless travels as such were fraught with dangers, Oborevwori advised the corps-members of serve the people in the organisations and communities they are deployed with diligence and patriotic zeal.

He said that Delta is a peaceful state with accommodation and hospitable people, assuring that the corps-members would be warmly received in communities across the 25 local government areas of the state.

Oborevwori said: “As you move into the communities today, I urge you to serve the people with diligence. I assure you that Deltans across the state are hospitable, peace-loving, hardworking and accommodating. Wherever you are posted, be rest assured that Deltans are eagerly awaiting your arrival in their midst.

“My administration, on its part, will not relent in its efforts towards ensuring optimal welfare of all corps-members posted to this state.

“The entire people of Delta State are appreciative of the roles your predecessors have played in the development of the State through their participation in the Universal Basic Education (UBE), free healthcare delivery, fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS and other socio-economic and political development strategies.

“I will expect you to equally join hands with government through your active participation in these and programmes, among others, which area geared towards the transforming the living standard of the people.

“Delta State will utilise your services in all spheres of life and particularly in the area teaching our young ones in our various schools. You are, therefore, to ensure that positive values and knowledge are imparted unto these children that God has placed you to serve.”

Oborevwori also urged the participating members not to lose focus of the their respective self-development and due preparations for life after the one year mandatory national service, adding that they should not be discouraged by certain prevailing economic challenges confronting the country.

He said: “Our country is currently passing through some economic challenges but our great nation will come out of it stronger, better and more prosperous. Please be confident of a fairer economic, social and political stability in that future where you will surely be its leaders“, the governor said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator of the NYSC Delta State, Mr. Alao O. Olaosebikan, urged the corps-members to discharged their primary assignment with an open and patriotic mind, assuring them that their “contributions will be printed in gold in the history of Delta State”, which he observed has a tradition of recognizing diligent hard work among corps-members deployed to the state.

Olaosebikan expressed delight and appreciation to the Delta State Government and several collaborating agencies for their support towards the successful conclusion of the quite tasking three-week orientation course in Delta.
