Edfin MFB and Code14 LABS Partner to Promote Digital Literacy on International Literacy Day 2023

In commemoration of International Literacy Day 2023, Code14 LABS , a pioneer in classroom code education and Edfin MFB, a leading Educational financial institution committed to community development, are thrilled to announce a dynamic partnership. Together, they are joining forces to celebrate International Literacy Day 2023 by providing valuable resources to underserved communities. The goal of the partnership centers on advocating the importance of tech literacy and how it influences the ability of more children to go into tech opportunities which is currently evolving the work space and life in general through it’s inevitable needs.

In honor of this global literacy celebration, both partners have agreed to generously donate 1000 copies of the groundbreaking “Andrew Teachers Coding” interactive textbooks to 1000 students in low-cost segments and also implement extensive teacher training to build up the capacity of educators in these schools to teach this critical literacy skill to students to walk through their doors. These interactive textbooks are designed to empower young learners with essential coding skills, fostering technology literacy that is crucial in today’s digital world and also knock off block based coding platforms which do not make a child technology literate in any way.

Obinna Dike, Head of Commercials at the bank commented on behalf of the bank stating “Both partners firmly believe that literacy encompasses not only reading and writing English but also proficiency in essential computer languages.”

With access to these textbooks, children would be exposed to real coding in a relatable way which would effectively push them towards the direction of employability in the technology industry. Just like how English Language is pivotal to a child’s learning, Computer Language is now seen as essential knowledge required by children who plan to communicate bold ideas in today’s world.

As part of this collaborative effort, free teacher training will also be extended to educators in these communities with some delivery support from the British council. This training program aims to equip educators with the necessary subject-matter expertise and pedagogy to effectively utilize the textbooks in their classrooms and beyond, converting these educators into a permanent source of access to knowledge for students regardless of what school or community they teach in.

Educator Success Lead at Code14 LABS Ngozi Kunle-Dario making a statement on behalf of the labs leadership expressed that, “We mark International Literacy Day 2023 by donating 1000 Andrew Teaches Coding Interactive Textbooks to 500 students in the low-cost segment. However, our primary mission is to empower ICT or language educators in low-cost segments over the next year, ensuring sustainable access to technology literacy knowledge because literacy, inclusive of computer languages, is the key to life’s success.”

This partnership exemplifies their dedication to equipping the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Both partners express their gratitude to all participants and stakeholders who will support this initiative. Together, we can celebrate International Literacy Day 2023 knowing we are working towards making a profound impact on education practice surrounding foundational literacy in Nigerian schools.
