A 200 level Electrical Engineering student of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State, described as Abdul Azeez has been crushed to death by a hit and run truck driver.

Another yet to be identified student was seriously injured as a result of the accident.

It was learnt that the deceased and the seriously injured student who were riding on a motorcycle were hit by the truck in front of the main gate of university.

According to an eyewitness the driver immediately the incident occurred zoomed off making it impossible for any arrest to be made.

The remains of Abdul Azeez, who returned on Friday from the burial of his mother, has been deposited in the general hospital mortuary while the injured student still unconscious at the time of filing this report is receiving treatment at the University Clinic.

The incident has led to protests by other students who blocked the Minna-Bida Road at Gidan Kwanu setting tyres on fire.

The students also obstructed vehicular movement resulting on motorist taking another route to get to their destinations.

Efforts by the police to persuade the students to leave the highway were abortive making the police to expose several canisters of teargas to disperse them.

This according to eyewitnesses did not deter the students who insisted that the driver of the truck must be apprehended and brought to justice.

Efforts to get confirmation of the story from the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP. Wasiu Abiodun, were also abortive as he did not respond to several phone calls made to his cell phone.

However, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Mr. Kumar Tsukwan, confirmed the story saying the truck involved in the accident was heading towards Bida while the motor bike was carrying three students from Gidan Kwanu heading to the school campus.

Tsukwan said the vehicle and motorcycle are in police custody.
