The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Katsina State has expressed joy and hailed Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for recruiting 7,325 teachers into the state civil service.

The Coalition, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mr. Abdulrahman Abdullahi and Secretary, Tukur Sule-Tama, made available to THISDAY, yesterday, described the gesture as first-of-kind in the state.
Radda, recently absorbed 7,325 teachers on the state government’s S-power programme, part-time teachers and volunteers into the state civil service after thorough examinations.

The CSOs explained that the absorption of the S-Power teachers, part-time and volunteers’ appointments into permanent positions was a giant stride towards rejuvenating the education sector in the state.

The statement read in parts: “The coalition also appreciates the free hand His Excellency gave to the committee that conducted the screening and recruitment exercise without undue interference. This made their work credible and generally acceptable without any form of complaint from the public.
“Most important aspect worthy of commendation is the consideration given to all the recommendations made by the Committee in its report, and His Excellency’s foresight in approving induction training for all the recruited teachers to enhance their capacity.”

The CSOs, however, called on the state government to regularise the appointments of casual health workers, particularly those working in primary healthcare centres across the state.

“The coalition wishes to appeal to the Governor to consider extending a similar gesture to the casual workers in the health sector, especially those at the primary healthcare level at an appropriate time.”, the statement added.
