Bauchi State Government has disclosed that plans are under way for the upward review of salary structure and remuneration of members of traditional institutions including Emirs, District and Village Heads across the state.
This is as the Bauchi State Council of Emirs have commended the governor for the infrastructural development and the legacy projects that he is going to bequeath to state while acknowledging the respect he accords the traditional institutions in the state.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who was speaking while granting audience to members of the State Council of Emirs at Government House Bauchi, yesterday said the move for the upward review of salary structure and remuneration of members of the traditional institutions was to enhance their royal duties of complementing government’s efforts in addressing security challenges currently resurfacing in some local government areas of the state.
The governor, who also informed the visitors that respect for the traditional institutions is cardinal under his watch, reiterated the resolve of his administration to always put Bauchi State first before any other consideration.
He appealed to the traditional rulers to closely monitor their domains with a view to checking on the excesses of undesirable elements that may seek refuge from the onslaught of security operatives from other places.
According to him, despite the scarce resources in the state’s treasury, his administration decided to review the earnings of traditional title holders to keep their eyes off on the offers being made by bandits and hoodlums.
He explained that the recent removal of some District and Village Heads who compromised the rule of engagement was to serve as deterrent to others.
The governor attributed the success of his administration to the massive support of the traditional institution and the entire people of the state and also pledged that government will continue to partner them in that regard.
He then solicited for the assistance of Emirs in the distribution of the Federal Government palliative by keeping a close watch to ensure that equity and transparency reign all through the distribution process.
Earlier, the Emirs commended Governor Mohammed for the infrastructural development and the legacy projects that he is going to bequeath to State.
The Emirs also acknowledged the respect he accords the traditional institutions saying that it is no surprise because he comes from the same institution, being a son of district head.
The first class emirs were led on the courtesy visit by chairman of the council, Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu.
Represented by his deputy, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruk ii, the chairman said that they were in the Government House to personally commend the Governor and encourage him to sustain the tempo in bringing development and prosperity to Bauchi State.
He said the Council of Emirs is not unaware of Governor Mohammed’s concern for the welfare of the traditional institutions that was hitherto relegated to the background.
The Council of Emirs then reiterated their support to his administration, and also called on the newly constituted state executive council to work with the aim of bringing development to state as a whole and not to be swayed by sectional sentiments.
