Accolades for Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo

These are great times for Nigerians with the new cluster of federal workers. One of these, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is already getting Nigerians to salute him in praise. In many ways, the man has managed to accomplish something that many others have attempted to do.

Tunji-Ojo is proving to others and to himself that he is the perfect fit for the position of Interior Minister. Dedicated to the job, Tunji-Ojo’s grasp of his obligations is expressed in how much energy he is willing to spend, not minding that he might get exhausted. But Nigerians are counting on him, so there is no avenue for grumbling and mediocrity.

Believing this to be true, Tunji-Ojo has already started making the kind of moves that will get him remembered as a legendary minister in the days to come. Based on the most recent report, Tunji-Ojo has led the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to clear a passport backlog of almost 60,000. While this is good news in and of itself, it is amazing that the entire clearing session covered only four working days, averaging 15,000 every day.

At present, a deluge of praises is gathering at the feet of Tunji-Ojo who is believed to be one of the sharp ends of the Renewed Hope era in Nigeria. This is especially against the backdrop of several other incredible achievements attributed to Tunji-Ojo and his overflowing love for his nation and countrymen.

The most recent of these achievements, although its actualisation is still in the pipeline, is the reported partnership between Tunji-Ojo’s Interior Ministry and Dr. Betta Edu’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. The collaboration is expected to result in a strategic scheme devised to address unresolved issues such as illegal migration, human trafficking, child labour, and the provision of vocational skills at correctional centres.

Ultimately, Tunji-Ojo is taking the bull of Nigerian problems by the horns, cutting out the difficult parts one after the other.
