US Embassy, OISD Begin Training 20,000 Female Journalists

The Organization of Innovation and Sustainable Development (OISD) in collaboration with the United States Embassy at the weekend revealed plan to train 20,000 female journalists in investigative, digital, gender-sensitive reporting nationwide.
The Executive Director of OISD, Jamilu Yusuf revealed the plan at the inauguration of the three-day training workshop held at American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State.
Yusuf said the project aimed at addressing gender disparities within the media industry particularly focusing on the Northeast now and subsequently other parts of the country.
He added that the comprehensive program was meticulously designed to empower and uplift women journalists, ensuring they not only exist within the landscape, but thrive as influential change-makers, storytellers and opinion shapers.
He said over 50 participants were drawn across the six states of the Northeast for the start, saying the training would continue subsequently in other states and across the country for the number of years the project would lasted.
He said the project was designed “at enhancing skills, to equip female journalists with necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to excel in their profession. This includes training in journalism techniques, digital media, storytelling and leadership.”
