Evans Woherem As Tech Titan

Evans Woherem is a Nigerian Tech Titan with grand vision to revolutionize the world of technology.

He spent his early years in Apara Kingdom, Port Harcourt, River State. His passion for learning led to outstanding academic achievements. He pursued higher education at the University of La Verne, United States, earning a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science. 

Later, he obtained master’s degrees in various fields like cognition, computing, psychology (ie, Artificial Intelligence) and economics in the United Kingdom. His most significant milestone was earning a doctorate in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Manchester in the UK.

Equipped with a wealth of knowledge, Evans embarked on a fulfilling career. He became an educator at prestigious institutions and held significant positions in Lloyd’s Register, the UK, and ABSA Bank in South Africa.

However, Evans never lost sight of his Nigerian heritage. In 1996, he returned to Nigeria with a mission to advance technology in his homeland. He joined FSB International Bank Plc., where he contributed to enhancing tech literacy and usage among the people. His impressive achievements led to his appointment as the Executive Director of IT & Electronic Banking at First Bank of Nigeria in 2001.

During his tenure at First Bank, Evans spearheaded the advent of online banking and introduced innovative technology solutions. He also assumed the role of Chairman at Interswitch Limited, a prominent electronic payment processing company. Under his leadership, First Bank became a frontrunner in the realm of digital banking within Nigeria.

Evans’ influence transcended the banking sector. He supported an investment outfit named Gamzaki Ltd and provided counsel to the government of Rivers State as a member of the Economic Advisory Committee of the government of the state. He also held significant positions in various other companies.

Evans’ substantial contributions to technology were recognized with his honors as a Fellow of the Nigerian Computer Society and an honorary senior member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. He also serves as the Chairman of Digital Africa Group, organizer of the esteemed Digital Africa Conference and Exhibitions, one of the largest tech and business events in West Africa.

As the eagerly awaited 11th Annual Digital Africa tech show approaches on September 19 and 20, 2023, it becomes evident that Evans Woherem, with his lofty aspirations and extensive knowledge, has made a logical and enduring impact on the world of technology, not only in Nigeria but also far beyond its borders.
