The Minister of Works, David Umahi,  has directed RCC, the contractor in charge of the  Lokoja – Abuja road to reconstruct the failed section of the road that had earlier been built by the company.

The minister spoke in continuation of his inspection of roads, including those in the South-west, South-east, South-south and the Phase II of Lokoja –Okene road in Kogi State, North-central.

Umahi during his inspection of Gada-Biyu Bridge 1 & 2 on the  Lokoja – Abuja road, lamented that there were still many failed portions of the road , calling on the contractor to go round and submit the list of failed portions of the road.

“We must get a reputable consultant to supervise the road construction so that when the road fails, we can hold them accountable. Something must be done to change from the present situation of how we construct our roads. Our roads should be constructed with concrete,”  he stated.

Umahi has also directed that the ministry should review the road works of CGC Construction  Company and revert to his office within seven days, a statement from Blessing Lere-Adams, the Director (Information) Press and Public Relations Unit of the ministry , said yesterday.

He added that every road being constructed must have a consultant  because majority of the job done had all failed since they were not built with concrete.

He told some of the road contractors that he inspected their work that no one would increase contract price under him, explaining that where the job is less than 50 per cent, work will be carried out on a single lane to ease traffic.
