ATBU Trains 100 Academics on Research Commercialisation, Accreditation

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi says it will use its Innovation Hub to seek collaboration with companies for commercialisation of researches in the institution.

The Director Research, Innovation and Development, Professor Fatima Sawa stated this at the opening of a three-day research commercialisation and accreditation workshop held at ATBU Gubi campus.

Professor Sawa said the Bank of Industry and Opolo Global Innovation had supported the university to establish an innovation hub that would help in commercialising researches for both local and international markets.

While highlighting the number of research grants the institution currently benefited from to include two international grants, 59 Institute Based Research (IBR) and six National Research Fund (NRF), the director charged the participants to develop ideas for sellable researches.

Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor, ATBU, Professor Muhammad Ahmad Abdul’azeez, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Ahmad Sarki Fagam, urged the participants to develop not only commercially driven researches, but with patent for copyright protection.

Professor Muhammad Abdul’azeez who appreciated the directorate for its effort in developing the capacity of lecturers, also encouraged them to write NRF proposals to propel the university to greater heights.

Also Speaking, the Deputy Director RI&D, Professor Balarabe Yusha’u thanked the university management and stakeholders for their support towards the development of all research and innovative ideas.

The three day workshop which drew about 100 academics within the institution is expected to deliberate on how to write commercially driven international standard research proposals.
