Organised Labour under the auspices of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) has directed all its affiliates in the country to commence an indefinite strike by midnight, Tuesday, October 3rd.
The decision of the labour unions was reached at a joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held Tuesday in Abuja.
The two labour centres unanimously condemned the severe hardship imposed on Nigerians by the sudden removal of subsidy of petrol (Premium Motor Spirit).
Addressing journalists in a press conference at the Labour House in Abuja shortly after their meeting on Tuesday, both NLC President, Joe Ajaero and his TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo, said that the Federal Government has not in any way substantially met the demands of labour for palliatives to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.
