The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, yesterday debunked allegations that she falsified her age prior to her appointment to head the treasury house.
Some aggrieved directors in the Office of the AGF had through their legal advisor, petitioned the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, accusing Madein of falsifying her age and bribing her way to becoming the AGF despite not passing the special professional examination conducted for all shortlisted directors for the appointment among others.
They alleged that Madein didn’t qualify as the best candidate for the office having emerged second behind one Mr. Olakunle Oladipupo, now posted as Director of Finance in the Ministry of Works.
The petitioners further alleged that the AGF was born on March 7, 1963 in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne LGA of Ogun State, adding that prior to her appointment as AGF, she was alleged to have illegally adjusted her age to March 7, 1965 in order to elongate her service year.
However, reacting to the allegations against her, Madein, through the Director of Press, Mr. Bawa Mokwa, denied the allegations, pointing out that her records could be verified from the documents she already submitted to the Independent Corrupt Pracitices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
She said the office being a competitive and coveted seat, was often susceptible to unwarranted attacks.
Nonetheless, the petitioners urged President Bola Tinubu to order the arrest, investigation and possible prosecution of the AGF over the alleged offences.
“We therefore urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his usual quest for transparency and accountability to direct the arrest, investigation, and possibly prosecution of Mrs. Oluwatoyin S. Madein for the various offenses stated above,” they added.
They accused the AGF of receiving cash inducement in posting accountants to various ministries and MDAs among others.
Also petitioned were the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the National Security Adviser.
