NAOWA President Lays Foundation for Computer Centre, Distributes Food Items in Sokoto

The National President of Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a computer centre at the Giginya Barracks Nursery and Primary School, Sokoto, on Monday.

She also inaugurated remodeled classrooms, vocational training centre, tree planting at the school garden and playground.

Lagbaja also presented food items and cooking oil to the widows of soldiers who lost their live as a result of insurgency and other accidental occurrences while in active service.

She explained that the gesture is geared towards providing quality education for the children of soldiers in the barracks and empower the widows according to the organisation’s objective.

According to her, the drive was to boost opportunities for barracks communities and the less privileged in the society.

“As the 23rd President of NAOWA, we shall ensure commitment, dedication and resilience in the service to the NAOWA institution in order to sustain legacies.

‘’NAOWA is desirous of building and strengthening avenues towards effective collaboration with governments, agencies and associations in order to enhance the quality of lives for the less privileged,” she said.

Lagbaja explained that it was cardinal to extend hands of friendship by enhancing developmental initiatives that would support human survival in many respects of legitimate pursuits.

She inspected the school’s building, and explained that education was an important instrument of attaining progress for development.

She noted that it was also necessary to give children the opportunity to acquire knowledge as a build up to knowledge independence and dream for self actualisation in their endeavours.

She solicited the support of governments, agencies and related organs in driving the responsive course for the benefit of the society.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairperson of Sokoto Chapter of NAOWA, Mrs Florence Mutkut, commended the national president for her giant steps towards sustaining the tempo of infrastructural development in the barracks community where challenges of infrastructure was needing attention.

Mutkut said that the projects that were inaugurated comprised of newly renovated NAOWA Crèche and NAOWA Nursery and Primary School with befitting toilet facilities.

She said that the laying of foundation of a 48 student capacity Computer Room and Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) centre at the school would be of great benefits to the pupils.

She explained that the center and the classes would enhance children learning capability in information technology and thanked the national president for the humanitarian outreach aimed at bringing succour to residents of the barrack.

 The highlight of the event was a drama presentation and cultural display by the pupils while cross section of benefiting widows expressed appreciation over the supports, which would surely ameliorate their plights.
