Iwobi, Vinicius Fire Fulham into Fourth Round of Carabao Cup
*Newcastle knockout Manchester City in Third Round
Fulham advanced into the Carabao Cup fourth round after they fought hard to beat Norwich 2-1 at Craven Cottage.
Goals from Carlos Vinicius and Alex Iwobi were enough for Marco Silva’s men
who responded well after the weekend’s lacklustre 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.
Fulham found success early on down the left flank through Willian and Fode Ballo-Toure, who created a 10th-minute chance for Vinicius that the striker headed over.
Vinicius justified a run out after his winner against Luton two weeks ago and he opened the scoring in the 10th minute.
Willian’s floated delivery found Iwobi at the back stick and he headed it across goal to Vinicius who tapped home.
Silva had called for more chances to be created during games and Fulham did just that through Harry Wilson, Willian and Tom Cairney.
Elsewhere, Alexander Isak scored a second-half winner as last season’s finalists Newcastle United dumped eight times winners Manchester City out of the League Cup 1-0 in a third round clash at St James’ Park on Wednesday.
The Premier League champions dominated possession in the first half but Newcastle soaked up the pressure and came out fighting after the break, with Isak firing in at the far post off a cross from Joelinton in the 53rd.
It was also sad news for Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi who were in action as Liverpool came from behind to beat Leicester City 3-1 to qualify for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning second-half strike helped Liverpool come from behind to beat Leicester City.
Kasey McAteer gave Leicester the lead just three minutes in as the Championship leaders hit their Premier League hosts on the counter-attack.
Cody Gakpo was the man who got the Reds’ equaliser with a well-taken finish just after half-time, having earlier been denied by Conor Coady’s goalline clearance. Diogo Jota added the third in the 89th minute.
