Arewa Youths Beg Tinubu to Halt Looming Political Crisis in Kano

Sunday Aborisade in Abuja

The Northern Youth Assembly, otherwise known as Majalisar Matasan Arewa, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, to be wary of some northern political leaders, who were allegedly plotting political crisis in Kano State.

The group raised the alarm in a statement jointly signed by its Acting President, Dr. Ali Idris and National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Adikwu Omale Joshua, in Abuja.

It noted that Tinubu should not allow Kano, being the political heartbeat of Nigeria, to be engulfed in flames.

It explained that only equity, justice and fairplay could save the impending political conflagration, which might soon engulf the peaceful state as a result of the development arising from the recent verdict of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in the state.

Part of the statement read: “As you are fully aware, Kano is officially the most populous state in the country, with an estimate figure of over 20 million people. It is a population size equivalent to more than five states if added together in the country.

“Kano State is also the heartbeat of the North, which many citizens of other states largely depend upon, for the viability of their economy, and steady earnings for livelihood.

“Kano State, has for some years been stable politically since 2019 due to huge sacrifices many individuals and organisations had paid, such as Kano Peace Committee (KPC), the Nigeria Police under the able leadership of CP Mohammed Waki.

“He was the one, who summoned all the courage to contain the heavily institutionalised political thuggery, until when the inconclusive saga descended on Kano, through the hand work of some politicians, who did not mean well for the state.”

The group noted that many lives could have been lost in 2019, but the situation was marginally controlled, adding that the 2023 general election equally went through peacefully, courtesy of the joint efforts of the security agencies, Kano Peace Committee (KPC), as well as the cooperation of the Kano State Government.

It therefore urged President Tinubu to ensure that the rule of law, and  justice was done in the ongoing judicial battle in the state as a result of the 2023 general election.
