The NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre (NLCC) and the Cycology Cycling Club are pushing for more community efforts as part of preventive measures and conscious awareness to beat cancer in the country.

The stakeholders also emphasised the need for regular checkups, early detection, and prompt treatment to reduce the cancer scourge in the country.

These calls were some of the highlights of the awareness programme on the theme: “Ride against Prostate and Ovarian Cancer” in Ikoyi.

The Director of NSIA LUTH Cancer Centre, Lagos, Dr. Lilian Ekpo, is confident about their stand and active motion against cancer, which has affected countless lives, directly and indirectly.

She admitted that all cancers, like ovarian and prostate, bring stories of struggle, pain, and uncertainty. “But they also bring tales of hope, determination, and victory.”

Thus, Ekpo insisted that at NSIA LUTH Cancer Centre, with their state-of-the-art care and technology, they are committed to ensuring that more stories end in triumph and fewer in despair.

According to the director, technology alone cannot beat cancer. It requires community efforts, awareness, and preventive measures.

She described the ride against cancer initiative as a beacon of understanding, illuminating the importance of regular check-ups, early detection, and prompt treatment.

In the context of cancer, Ekpo sees knowledge as a lifesaver. “Knowing the signs, understanding the risks, and acting promptly can mean the difference between life and death.”

During the ride, the director encouraged participants to commit to spreading awareness, supporting those battling the disease, and remembering the dead.

Her words: “Let today be a testament to our collective spirit, our will to combat prostate and ovarian cancer head-on.’

The director also acknowledged the doctors, nurses, support staff, and the NLCC team.

She expressed how their unwavering dedication propels the centre to achieve greater heights.

“Daily, your work transforms lives, offering hope where there might have been despair,” she emphasised.

Meanwhile, she thanked the Cycology Cycling Club for championing the cause of a healthier lifestyle and being an invaluable partner in this ride against cancer.

“Let’s continue to ride together, not just on our bicycles but also in our endeavours to create a cancer-free world,” says Ekpo.
