Fresh Air as Bode Agoro

Resumes as the New Lagos HoSIn public administration, new waves emerge to replace the old and all things move on. Lagos State is also experiencing this necessary progression of events with the recent decision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to have Bode Agoro take over the position of Head of Service (HoS) after the departure of Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

It is a time of reflection among civil servants in Lagos as they get a new boss. Formerly serving under the supervision of Muri-Okunola, the state’s civil service might need some time to adjust to new leadership.

Nevertheless, the people of Lagos are generally hopeful that the new man will be just as effective as the old. Some of the confidence traces back to Governor Sanwo-Olu being around to guarantee the standards of excellence and dedication.

Sanwo-Olu’s decision to have a new person take over the position formerly held by Muri-Okunola did not come as a surprise. The latter is miles into his new position as Principal Secretary to President Bola Tinubu. Thus, it is only natural that Sanwo-Olu has someone else look after the civil servants in the state, and that obligation has fallen on no other person but Agoro.

Agoro is not new to the civil service vocation. He has been assisting the operations of the parastatal since 2003. Serving as Director of Lands Bureau in Land Services between that year and 2005, Agoro went on to be the Director of Land Regularisation, starting in 2006. It was only in 2015 that he took up the role of the Lands Bureau’s Permanent Secretary.

With Agoro’s stint in Lagos State Civil Service, not to mention a robust career underlain by an extensive academic portfolio, the civil servants of Lagos are in good hands. Even with the highly regarded Muri-Okunola out of the picture, it is certain that Agoro will help ferry the service onto new and fortune-telling waters.
