The Senior Human Resources Business Partner, Dangote Cement Plc,
Ahmed Ladan Gobir, has urged the newly inducted human resources professionals to imbibe the spirit of competence and excellence in the discharge of their duties.
Gobir, who disclosed this yesterday in Lagos during Chartered Institute of Personnel Managers (CIPM) 51st induction ceremony with the theme: ‘Now that You are Chartered: Building Professional Competencies for Excellence and Impact’ said becoming a chartered professional is a significant achievement that highlights the highest level of expertise within a particular field.
He also stated that being chartered is just the beginning of a journey towards building professional competencies for excellence and impact.
He further explained that to excel as a chartered professional, it is important to constantly improve and develop the skills, knowledge, and abilities required to meet the expectations of clients, employers, and the community, adding that this process involves building on existing competencies and acquiring new ones to enhance professional performance, improve decision-making abilities, and maximize the impact of one’s work.
Earlier in his remarks, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the CIPM, Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, stated that the collaboration between the CIPM and the Lagos State is a long-standing one and commended the State, under the leadership of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for continuously paying serious attention to its human resources.
He hinted that people are the most important resource in the workplace and an investment that must be nurtured.
According to him, “This Induction Ceremony is a testimonial to our unrelenting advocacy strides for the professionalization of the HR/Admin cadre of the Public Service both at the Federal level and the various sub-nationals.
“Today, we are here, for the third time, to induct Officers of the State into our esteemed Institute of HR Professionals. Lagos keeps setting the pace for others to follow. It truly gladdens my heart to see the professionalization strides extending to the Federal level. I’m positive we have all seen the August 31st circular from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade YemiEsan, MCIPM on the professionalization of HRM in the Federal Civil Service. That is a huge milestone for the HR profession in this country. Congratulations to us all and a big thank you to the Heads of Service of the Federation and of the various sub-nationals.
“I am pleased to let you know that after this ceremony, you are eligible to receive your HR Practitioner’s Licence at no additional cost, thus giving you the Licensed Practitioner’s seal. Details of this process will be shared with you in due course.
“By the way, it is humbling to note that not all of us who applied made it here. To these esteemed colleagues, I would like to appeal to you, as someone who has gone through this path not to give up. I have failed before, then I learned to fail forward. Please arise, dust up yourself, and give it another try. The CIPM is thoroughly professional. We have a process. You were all thoroughly grilled by a Committee of the Governing Council. It is to your advantage if you do not give up. We are here for you, and we will help you to excel.”
