No Bandits Attack in Usman DanFodio Varsity, Says VC

The Vice Chancellor of Usman DanFodio University (UDU), Professor Bilbis Lawal, has dispelled rumours that bandits attacked the main campus of the university.

Lawal clarified that what took place was a case of arm robbery.

He called on the general public as well as parents to remain calm, saying that there is no cause for alarm over the security of their wards.

“Let me first and foremost appreciate your coming for on the spot assessment of what really happened in the university so as to douse the ongoing tension as being speculated on social media.

“I was alerted by security officials of the school about the incident, and when I arrived at the mini mart where the incident happened at about 11p.m. on Monday, it was observed that it was case of arm robbery and not bandits.

“They carted away two cartons of Maltina drinks and eight handset phones belonging to some students. The handsets were plugged at the mart for charging.

“I immediately alerted the security agents including the Nigerian Police, NSCDC officials and they all responded by sending their men to the scene.”

The vice chancellor further commended the security agents as well as the internal security architecture of the school for their prompt response to the incident.

There was uneasy calm amongst the parents as the story of bandits attack in the university was viral in the social media.

Some parents were worried due to the recent abduction of some students of Federal University Gusau , Zamfara State, which is a neighbouring state to Sokoto State.
