In a society where certain issues are seldom discussed, there lies a hidden menace that profoundly affects relationships, marriages, and individuals’ mental well-being — female genital mutilation (FGM). This deeply impactful age-long issue often remains in the shadows, but a new film has once again brought to the fore its effects, offering potential remedies for victims.
Starring Stella Damasus in the lead, the film – The Scar – opened in cinemas yesterday October 6. With a later date in the US. The issue of FGM is captured as a deep cut from the past that threatens and leaves a marriage in shambles. A solution to the cut is the only way out. It tells the story of a woman whose marriage gets troubled by the effects of forceful genital mutilation done to her many years ago.
Now she must overcome the past and at the same time fight to save her family.
