ISFF to hold its inaugural edition this October

Following his monumental trajectories in the African and intercontinental film industry, Chief Amb. Dr. Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen thought it wise to give back to the society by creating the International Student Film Festival which is dedicated to filmmakers in training. The festival would bring on board promising filmmakers and further strengthen the capacity of the country’s film industry as well as give emerging talents the needed grounds to start making impact. Following an inspection of facilities by the accreditation committee of the Festival, Nigeria’s premiere private University, Igbinedion University Okada, Edo State, has been found worthy to host the inaugural edition.

Dr Lancelot further expressed that, “The vision is set to see to the development of filmmakers affiliated to learning institutions such as Academies and Universities. Overtime, it has been observed that student filmmakers do not get dedicated opportunities to showcase their creative works. This could be as a result of the student-status of these category of filmmakers which may pose the threat of seeing them as unable to produce award worthy or master piece films.”

The Advisory Board and the Awards Jury Members have been carefully selected and it is seasoned with the brightest minds in Nollywood, affiliated industries and tertiary institutions who would deploy their expertise and experience in making the festival laid with deep impacts. One of the beauties of this unique festival is that it has been designed to travel from one location to another. This means that different editions of the festival will be hosted by different institutions that will meet the required standards as captured in ISFF’s accreditation document.

Sequel to a meticulous assessment of the entered films, the ISFF independent jury has presented for screening, 37 films selected from across Africa and 22 films selected from outside Africa for the October slated event. In addition the organizers have also decided to honour Nollywood Legends and notable names in the industry by presenting awards in their names to deserving students and they are Dr Hosa Okunbo, Emem Isong, Chico Ejiro, Liz Benson, Sadiq Baba, Chief Sir Gabriel Igbinedion, Enebeli Elebuwa among others.
