Nigerian Structural Engineers have been advised to share experiences and expertise to advance their profession to enable contribute to the development of the nation.
This advice was given by Engr. Peter Osarodion Igbinuesu, President/Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers (a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers).
“By sharing our experiences and expertise, we can collectively contribute to the advancement of our profession and ensure the safety and resilience of our built environment,” said Igbinuesu at a press conference preceding the annual conference and annual general meeting of the Structural Engineers.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Emerging Tasks for Structural Engineering Practice in Nigeria.”
He said, “This conference serves as a platform for professionals in our field and the built environment to exchange knowledge, insights, and best practices in the everevolving domain of structural engineering. With rapid advancements in technology, changing environmental conditions, and the need for sustainable design solutions, it is imperative that we stay ahead of emerging tasks and challenges. Especially, the embarrassment relating to building collapse and failed infrastructure.
“The goal of this conference is to foster collaboration, inspire new ideas, and empower structural engineers to tackle the complex challenges we face today and in the years to come.”
He urged them to focus on key areas that are shaping the future of their profession as Structural Engineers. We will explore topics in the field of resilient infrastructure, innovative materials, advanced computation technologies and sustainable design practices.
In this regard, the conference has the following main subthemes: Effective regulation for structural engineering practice in Nigeria.(Alternative building procurement and professional certification.)
Emerging technology in structural engineering practice in Nigeria. (Technology applications in prototype and mass housing, a case for modular buildings.)
Structural engineering of community infrastructure such as the Lagos metro system.
