1XBET Cup: Odion Ighalo FC Win Epe Conference

Odion Ighalo FC’s Michael Nwachukwu scored the only goal that decided the winner of the Epe Conference of the maiden edition of the 1XBET Grassroots Football Tournament  yesterday.

The high-octane final game of the Epe Conference between Ighalo FC and De Elites was end-to-end actions and fans at the venue were on their toes throughout the encounter.

And it was not until the 53rd minute goal by Nwachukwu that the boys were separated from the men, with Odion Ighalo FC grabbing the lone ticket at stake.

 Interestingly, that goal was Nwachukwu’s fifth  in two matches. 

De Elites proved to be worthy finalists.

It took the daring efforts of the defence line of the Ighalo FC that was marshalled by Justice Ohanusi and the dare-devil saves by goalkeeper Idowu Abiodun to stop De Elites from reaching the final of the tournament proper after the Conference playoffs.

Yusuf Fawaz also of Ighalo FC emerged the highest scorer of the Epe Conference with 6 goals.

A total of 40 goals were scored in 13 matches of the Epe Conference, making it the highest goals scored in the championship, so far. 

Speaking after the final match, former Nigeria youth international, Pastor Michael Dominic commended Match International Limited, the organisers of the championship led by Engr. Waidi Akanni for a near-perfect football showpiece.

He also lauded the sponsors, 1XBET for taking grassroots football to a new height.
