Betsy Obaseki Cup: Edo Queens, Remo Stars Ladies off to Another Rivalry

The rivalry between Bendel Insurance FC and Remo Stars of Ikenne will be rekindled at the women’s level when the third edition of the Betsy Obaseki Football Tournament kicks off on Monday in Benin City.

In the draw made yesterday at the Government House in Benin City, Edo Queens who just recently won the Sheroes Preseason tournament were paired with the newly formed Remo Stars Ladies in Group A.

Abuja-based Naija Raitel Queens who recently signed on Super Falcons Captain, Onome Ebi, completed the three teams in the group.

Interestingly, the Remo Ladies are  coached by former Edo Queens manager, Wemimo Matthew.

In Group B of the 13-team competition, is last year semi-finalists, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, and Confluence Queens.

Group C have defending Champions, FC Robo Queens, NWFL Championship side Fortress Ladies, Heartland Queens, and Rivers Angels.

Group D, hosts NWFL Champions, Delta Queens, Ekiti Queens, and Osun Babes.

Speaking at the draw ceremony, Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki who is the force behind the tournament explained why this edition has as Theme :”Stop Gender- based Violence”.

“Following the success recorded by our campaign against women trafficking, Edo State is no longer No. 1 in the index of states in the country where young girls are shipped out of the country for prostitution. We also believe that this our campaign against Gender-based Violence will similarly achieve the result of eradicating such vices from our society.”

The tournament is scheduled to begin  on Monday, October 23rd, with the opening match set for 5 pm at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
