Global leader in wine and spirits, Pernod Ricard has teamed up with ‘Let’s Do It Nigeria’ to clean up Marwa community in Lekki, Lagos.
The action was in commemoration of 2023 World Cleanup Day, which the company said agrees with its commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
Speaking, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Western Africa, Sola Oke stated that as much as the firm runs its business, it recognises and pays attention to preservation of natural resources.
He explained the objective of the day as creating a shift towards better management of resources and inspire smarter choices in design, production, and consumption, adding that the organisation is leaving no stone unturned to drive these objectives.
He said, “We share a world of finite resources, under huge pressure. We minimise waste at every step by imagining, producing, and distributing our products and experiences in ways that optimise and help preserve natural resources. “
He disclosed further that as part of keeping the environment safe, the company is unboxing its ‘Jameson Irish Whiskey and Imperial Blue Whisky’ to do away with single bottle cartons.
“This will reduce the environmental impact of our products by reducing waste, and of course aligns with our circular making strategy which applies five key principles at each step of product lifecycle: rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle and respect”, he explained.
Also commenting, Founder of Let’s Do It Nigeria, Seun Osikalu stressed the significance of living by 5 Rs -rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle and respect.
Interpreting the 5Rs, Osikalu said rethink entails being environmentally conscious before making any purchase and refuse, rejecting non-biodegradable and unnecessary materials while reduce and reuse have to do with purchasing what is essential and re-utilizing packaging respectively.
He added that recycle encourages recycling of materials and prioritising items made from recyclable materials.”
Head of Human Resources at Pernod Ricard Western Africa, Dolapo Onasanya reiterated that the clean-up exercise aligns with the company’s sustainability and responsibility roadmap for 2030, specifically under the circular making pillar.
“It represents an enduring commitment to environmental sustainability, ensuring a healthy future for Nigerians and global societies alike. We believe in the power of collective action to drive positive change,” he said.
