Security Operatives Re-arrest Katsina Prison Escapee

Joint security operatives in Katsina State have rearrested Abba Kala, a suspected notorious armed robber, who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in the state.

The state Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Najibullah Idris, announced the recapture of the escaped inmate in a statement yesterday.

Kala, an awaiting trial inmate, according to the statement, escaped from the custodial centre with one other inmate on October 17, 2023.

According to the statement, “Following the recent escape of two awaiting trial inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Katsina on October 17, 2023, a search party was constituted in collaboration with sister security agencies. Consequently, the principal suspect among the duo, Abba Kala, was recaptured.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service, Katsina State Command, is tracking the remaining fleeing inmate using the service’s e-tracking system as well as collaboration with sister security agencies, and will soon take him into custody.

“The Controller-General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, appreciates other security agencies for a functional synergy that led to the recapturing, and assures the public that there is no cause for alarm as the situation is under control.”
