Seplat Splashes over N20m on Edo/Delta Schools

The 12th edition of the Seplat JV Pearls Quiz Competition has been concluded with the grand finale held yesterday in Asaba, which saw Don Bosco Science Academy, Ekpoma, Edo State, emerging as the champion, and snatching the plum cash prize of N10 million for the best participating school.

The annual competition is a social corporate responsibility (CSR) initiative of Seplat Petroleum Development Company, an indigenous oil and gas exploration company operating in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria; and, Pearls stands for “Preparing Exceptional and Responsible Leaders”.

However, Our Saviour College, Sapele, Delta State, secured the second place after squaring up against Don Bosco Academy in the grand finale, going home with a cash prize of N5m (five million naira) and other gifts meant for the participating students and their teachers.

The third position went to Hollywood International School, Asaba, Delta State, which also went home  N3m richer, while Divine Providence College, Benin-City, Edo State, got the consolatory fourth place with the attached awards.

This year’s edition of the competition took on a unique format, commencing with an online stage that saw a staggering 510 schools participating. As the competition progressed, only 139 schools managed to secure a coveted spot in the physical showdown.

The grand finale in Asaba was witnessed by dignitaries from Delta and Edo states, including Dr Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the Delta State Government, representing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Governor Oborevwori commended Seplat for the educational initiative, emphasising that his administration would continue on the trajectory of placing high premium on education from the elementary and basic, secondary and vocational level to the tertiary level.
