Remo Ladies Stun Champions Robo FC as S’finalists Emerge

Remo Stars Ladies, Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens and Delta Queens have advanced to the semi-finals of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) after impressive displays at the quarter-finals of the tournament yesterday.
The ten-day tournament, in its third edition, started on October 23, 2023 and will run through November 1, 2023.
In a historic quarter-final match, Edo Queens sailed through to the next round after crushing their opponent, Heartland Queens FC of Owerri with a 2-1 score line.
The match took place at the Western Boys Mini Stadium in Ikpoba -Okha LGA.
Edo Queens had similarly defeated Heartland Queens of Owerri 4-0 to qualify for the semi-final of the 2022 edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament (BOWFT) last year.
Meanwhile, at the Western Boys Mini Stadium, the battle royal between the defending champions of the BOWFT, FC Robo Queens and Remo Stars Ladies ended 1-3 after 90 minutes of play in favour of the later who are new entrants to Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL).
In another quarter-final encounter at the UNIBEN Sports Complex in the early hours of Saturday, Bayelsa Queens thrashed their opponents, Ekiti Queens 4-1 to qualify for the semi-finals.
The decider game at the UNIBEN Sports Complex between Delta Queens and Nasarawa Amazons FC ended 3-1 in favour of the Delta Queens.
The football governing FIFA accredited tournament, is a brainchild of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki.
The ongoing third edition of the tournament is themed “Stop Gender Based Violence”, aimed at highlighting efforts by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to end gender-based violence in the state.
