Tinubu Mediates in Fubara, Wike Rift

* Meets with the duo to resolve Rivers crisis

* As police council confirms Egbetokun as IG

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday took immediate steps to end the rift between Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State and his predecessor, and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which has resulted in political crisis in the state.

The president used the opportunity of Tuesday’s meeting of the National Police Council at the State House, Abuja which both attended as members, to end the feud between the two political allies. 

Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting presided over by the president at the Council Chambers, said President Tinubu 

engaged in discussions with both parties with a view to restoring peace in the state. 

Despite their face-off, Fubara and Wike had earlier exchanged pleasantries outside the Council Chambers venue of the meeting.

Mohammed, who is the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), also disclosed that the opposition governors have resolved to work with the president because he has shown good faith by not interfering with gubernatorial cases brought before the courts by PDP members.

The peace moves followed the confirmation of Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IG) by the council. 

The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, explained that the council confirmed him because he had acquitted himself well since he was appointed in acting capacity in June 2023. 

He also noted that Egbetokun has also provided a blueprint on ensuring the security of the country, which indicates his suitability for the position.
