The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has warned those allegedly hatching the plots to impeach Rivers State Governor, Mr. Siminalaye Fubara, to halt the “illegal” processes or face the consequences of their actions.

The IYC, in a statement that was issued yesterday and signed by its Spokesperson, Mr. Binebai Yerin Princewill, warned that it would do everything necessary to protect the governor who is their kinsman.

“As a council, we are warning that the proponents of this undemocratic act in Rivers State must refrain forthwith from such plot as the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide will fight with all they have to protect the governor of Rivers State who is an illustrious Ijaw son.

“A point must be made clearly that the Ijaws are not push overs in Rivers State or any part of the world. We have sacrificed a lot towards the growth and development of Rivers State.

“The Ijaws have contributed both politically and economically in sustaining the state over the years, this to us is a political battle taken too far and a well calculated attempt to deprive the Ijaws from the governance of Rivers State,” Princewill said.

The IYC urged members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to be rational in their quest to carry out their legislative duties because the council would resist the grand plot to remove Fubara for an Ikwerre man to come in as governor of Rivers State.

It also condemned the wanton display of impunity by security officials in the state that fired teargas, gunshots and the pumping of water targeted at the governor and called on President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police to urgently remove or redeployment of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police.
